As a co-founder of iversity and member of the jury I can assure you that this was indeed a global competition, not a foregone conclusion. The considerations that went into the final decision very multi-faceted and there was no formal or informal agreement that it would be an all European group that would be selected. I personally agree that some very strong proposals from outside of the EU would have been worthy of being selected. Ultimately the group decision that emerged led to the list above, but there was a fierce debate over a non-EU course until the very end. All of the winning proposals have their strong points and we thus believe that we will end up with an excellent array of courses – no matter where they come from. That being said we obviously want to grow beyond this set of ten inaugural courses. Therefore we will try to collaborate with as many of the teams – from Europe and as well as the rest of the world – that weren't selected as possible in order to bring more of these excellent ideas online.

I think you sold me. I recently found out that my community college has full online programs. I take online because I have a husband who works for a special task force and has odd hours and I have my three little ones at home. Due to the fact that it is probably half the cost and I don't want my 3.94 GPA ruined, I will take your advice and transfer at the end of this course. 1 more week!

@Roni- also some food for thought: Since Ashford is being audited, They have to start to showing a higher percentage of lower grades, that being the case, if you were them, who would you start marking down? The students who are most capable, most likely to continue in spite of it, who are further along in the degree program who have more to lose if they quit... At least, from a financial perspective that is what the most profitable move would be. If you're work is honestly on the nose, and there is no other explanation, follow the money.

Roni, unfortunately, people who are college ready also get sucked into these scams. The worst part of it is the financial burden of maxed out student loans. You seem very bright and are probably quite accurate in your assessment of the instructors. It's very possible there are students who are more qualified than they. There are MANY wonderful not for profit schools who have an online option at half the price. A bonus is that many community colleges have direct transfers into their respective state universities, who also offer flexible class times and web conferencing options. Sadly many people are quite intimidated by the thought of showing up on campus and take comfort in being with students in like situations. My advice is transfer your credits now while they still have accreditation. These for profit schools have a financial aid rate of 95% because they target weak socioeconomic groups that get government funding and push them through the system. This in turn is costing billions to U.S. tax payers and causing a huge financial bubble much like the housing bubble crisis. Because of that, the dept. of Education is starting to audit these schools and they WILL shut down either because implemented regulation will create an intentional massive loss in profits to discourage this behavior and schools will either close their doors or lose their accreditation which is already starting to happen.
